I know I’ve been really hush hush around here but there’s a reason. A good reason, may I add! I’ve been “called back” for a part-time position as a photo editor right here in this small suburb I live in. It’s approximately 5-10 hours a week.
I edited two trial photos for them and they liked so they emailed me back saying it warrants a chat. I thought so too. The chat was yesterday at a pub. Don’t ask…
So we got down to the nitty gritty of this job. They ask me what I’d like to be paid. I told them that considering that this is more of an “artictic” job than a basic skill job like waitressing, I’d like about $15 an hour. That is already super-cheap considering that other editors can charge a minimum amount of $20-$25 an hour. And they said that they have devised a system of payment in which that I edit a set amount of photos and I’ll received X amount of money. Example: edit 20-30 photos is $125. So that’s $6.25 per photo for 20 photos, $4.17 per photo for 30 photos.
That is the only thing that I was unhappy/unsure about. I would have expected more than that. I mean, not all photos require the same amount of time. Maybe…another thing I was also puzzled about is the fact that this position is more contract part-time than permanent part-time. Meaning, if they don’t have any photo-sessions booked in, I will have zero work.
This is the sort of things I wish they actually listed down on the advertisement.
Originally, when I got called back, I had the great idea that if I am succesful in this positon, I can quit my waitressing. Now that all the fog is cleared about this position, it doesn’t look like I’ll be leaving soon. I’m not too sure yet. I have to decide whether I’m working because of the money or I’m working because it looks good on my CV.
